Ingredients
Scale:
1 lb ground beef (or ground turkey)
1/2 cup onion, finely chopped
1/2 cup green bell pepper, finely chopped
1 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1 teaspoon mustard
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1 large loaf of French or Italian bread
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried parsley
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
Instructions
In a large skillet, cook the ground beef over medium heat, breaking it apart with a spoon until browned (about 5-7 minutes). Drain excess grease if necessary.
Add the chopped onion and green bell pepper to the skillet. Cook until the vegetables are soft (about 3-4 minutes).
Stir in the ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, brown sugar, mustard, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Mix well and let simmer for 10-15 minutes.
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). In a small bowl, combine the softened butter, minced garlic, and dried parsley. Mix until well combined.
Slice the French bread in half lengthwise. Spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut sides.
Place the garlic bread halves on a baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
Remove the garlic bread from the oven. Spoon the Sloppy Joe filling generously over the garlic bread halves.
Sprinkle the shredded mozzarella cheese over the filling. Return the baking sheet to the oven and bake for an additional 5-7 minutes.
Remove from the oven, let cool slightly, and then slice into portions. Serve warm.
