Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing your workspace. Line a 13x9 inch baking dish with parchment paper, leaving some overhang for easy removal later.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt the butter over low heat. Add the mini marshmallows and stir continuously until completely melted and smooth, about 3-5 minutes.
  3. Once melted, remove the saucepan from heat and add the Rice Krispies cereal. Stir until the cereal is evenly coated with the marshmallow mixture.
  4. Divide the mixture into three bowls. In one bowl, add a few drops of red food coloring and mix until you achieve your desired shade of red. In another bowl, add blue food coloring and mix similarly.
  5. In the third bowl, leave the mixture plain to represent the white section of the flag.
  6. Using a spatula, press the red mixture into the left third of the prepared baking dish to form the red stripe.
  7. Next, press the white mixture into the middle third of the dish, smoothing it down. Then, press the blue mixture into the right third.
  8. Allow the mixture to cool completely at room temperature for about 30 minutes.
  9. Once set, use the parchment paper to lift the entire treat out of the dish. Cut the treats into rectangles or squares.
  10. For decoration, arrange the sliced strawberries and blueberries on the top of the treats to resemble an American flag. Drizzle with melted white chocolate or use frosting for added flair.
